As Art Week Miami Beach approaches, the city has announced new transportation options to help visitors and locals navigate the expected high traffic volumes. For the first time, complimentary water taxis and dedicated shuttle buses will be available, facilitating transit between Miami Beach and downtown Miami, as well as to various art fairs around the city.

Eric T. Carpenter, Miami Beach City Manager, highlighted the new services. "We're taking creative steps to ease the surge of traffic expected during one of our busiest weeks of the year," he told Miami Beach Gov. The water taxi service will operate across Biscayne Bay, with stops at Maurice Gibb Memorial Park in Miami Beach and the Venetian Marina & Yacht Club in Miami, running every 15 minutes at peak times.

In addition to the water taxis, an array of free shuttles will be at the disposal of art enthusiasts. The Outer Loop and Inner Loop Art Week shuttles will transport attendees to and from the Art Week's main venues and waterfront taxi stops. Meanwhile, a Water Taxi Connector shuttle will run between the Maurice Gibb Memorial Park and the Miami Beach Convention Center, the heartland of Art Week's activities.

Park and Ride locations are set up in key areas to further ease accessibility, with shuttle and water taxi services conveniently shuttling participants from select parking garages straight to the activities. The Miami Beach Trolley service will also see an enhanced frequency to manage the additional flow of people. For those preferring a more active mode of transportation, Miami Beach offers miles of bike-friendly infrastructure and Citi Bike stations throughout the city, catering to both conventional and electric-assisted bicycles, as detailed by Miami Beach Gov.

The city is making a concerted effort to smooth traffic patterns during the hectic art-filled week. Traffic monitors will extend their hours, keeping an eye on thoroughfares from dawn into the late evening, coordinating with law enforcement to ensure a steady flow of vehicles and timely updates through modern communication tools like digital signs and traffic text alerts. These efforts are expected to mitigate the burden on the city's roads, especially considering the ongoing roadwork around Biscayne Boulevard. The temporary adjustments to drawbridge operations during the event should also help manage the flow of traffic along the Venetian Causeway, a key route between Miami Beach and the city, according to the the same press release.
