The Miami-Dade County Commission for Women is calling for new members to join its ranks, filling vacancies that serve the community's efforts in advocating for women's issues. Serving as one of Florida's pioneering women's commissions since 1971, the Miami-Dade Commission aligns with several other statewide bodies and holds membership in the National Association of Commissions for Women, headquartered in Washington, DC., as per Miami-Dade County official announcement.
Current open positions are available in County Commission Districts 10, 11, and 12, with a clear call for Miami-Dade County residents who are willing to undergo a background check and fingerprinting. Applicants don't necessarily have to live in the districts they wish to represent, but it is a preferred qualification, according to the commission's statement.
In the quest for new board members, the commission emphasizes the importance of a demonstrated commitment to advocating for women. According to the Miami-Dade County website, "Applicants should have a proven track record of advocating for women, along with knowledge and interest in policy and organizing for issues affecting women." Furthermore, applicants with specific expertise in research, policy, or communications are to be given special consideration during the selection process.
Those interested in contributing to the Commission for Women's mission can send their resumes to [email protected]. The commission ensures that applications meeting the qualifications will be reviewed by Commissioners on a rolling basis, as noted on the event's announcement page.
