Two individuals were hospitalized following an overnight fire in Miami-Dade's Brownsville neighborhood, as crews from Miami-Dade Fire Rescue responded to a flaming residence around 1:30 a.m., located on Northwest 61st Street and 24th Avenue, according to Local 10.
The fire engulfed the home, with firefighters finding it fully in flames upon their arrival and it necessitated the rescue of two occupants who were later taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital for treatment primarily for smoke inhalation, and as of last reports, their conditions have yet to be disclosed despite early morning efforts that swiftly transported them to medical care, according to Local 10.
Separately, 7News reported a witness account of the tragic event. Neighbors identified a woman and her son with autism as the residents of the house. Ring camera footage documented the chaos as rescuers arrived at the scene where a mother's desperate cries for her trapped son added urgency to the grim scenario.
"I’m a mother and [hearing] the mother cry that was crazy. You know what I’m saying, your life is gone when something happens to your kids," a neighbor conveyed the emotional toll of the incident, as told in an interview with 7News. At the same time, firefighters faced not only the challenge of the blaze, which Rafael Carrillo of MDFR described as featuring "We were faced with heavy smoke and some fire, vicious fire. Heavy smoke," but also the arduous task of locating and saving the victim from the inflamed structure.
The coordinated rescue effort resulted in the survival of a mother and her son in addition to one of their cats; tragically, two other family cats did not survive the blaze, and "I was so proud of them because they were so fast when they got here," expressed a neighbor appreciating the rapid action of the Miami-Dade Fire Rescue, as the condition of the victims remains unknown and the fire's origin continues to be under investigation, as reported by 7News.
