Modesto Police Department's Special Crimes Unit detectives have made an arrest in a case that's been causing local concern, apprehending 34-year-old Christopher Cline of Modesto, who faces charges related to child harassment. According to the Modesto Police Department's social media update, the investigation was set into motion following a report last Tuesday of a female high school student being harassed by Cline after she stepped off a START bus.
The student, who luckily was not physically harmed, managed to escape the unwanted advances and immediately informed school staff of the incident which led to a swift parental notification using the communication app "Parent Square," the situation underscores the critical importance of community vigilance and the swift action of school officials in addressing such threats to child safety. After START bus surveillance provided a photo of Cline, the detectives—who recognized Cline as a registered sex offender—wasted no time in tracking him down which eventually led to his arrest in Riverbank later the same day and booking him into Stanislaus County Public Safety center on multiple felony violations.
As detectives delved deeper into Cline's activities, their investigation unearthed that he might have been involved in similar offenses in Oakdale, information that was promptly shared with the Oakdale Police Department. Further, upon continued collaboration with the school authorities, another unreported incident came to light, resulting in Cline facing additional charges.
The Modesto Police Department's post lauds START and Modesto City Schools for their partnership and help, which were instrumental in the investigation and extends a request for the public's assistance—if anyone has more information regarding the cases, they encourage reaching out to Detective Turner at 209-572-9564 or getting in touch with Oakdale Police Department at 209-847-2231.
