An 18-year-old man lost his life early yesterday in Turlock after an alleged shooting incident, prompting an investigation by local police authorities. According to Hoodline, the incident occurred near the intersection of Lander Avenue and Rosewood Drive, an area not known frequently for its criminal activities.
Jose Tamayo-Morales, a Modesto teen, was fatally shot and pronounced dead at the scene in Turlock after being struck by at least one bullet. Police were called around 3:30 a.m., and by late afternoon, 59-year-old Troy Cannon was arrested with help from License Plate Reader technology, as reported by abc 10.
The Turlock Police Department emphasized the role of technology in the swift progress of the case, with Turlock Chief Jason Hedden acknowledging, "With the aid of license plate reader technology, our detectives were able to swiftly gather critical information and locate the suspect," as per statements obtained by abc 10. The massacre followed a dispute between the victim and Cannon, though precise details of their altercation have not been disclosed to the public at this time.
"There were a couple other witnesses that did speculate that there was a brief encounter before the shooting occurred," said Dominique Sanchez, Turlock police public affairs analyst, in an interview with KCRA. The victim’s family alerted emergency services.
As the investigation proceeds, the Turlock Police Department calls on anyone with information to come forward and contact Det. Giovacchini at 209-668-6539.
