Investigators have charged Agustin E. Jaramillo Lopez with Negligent Manslaughter by Vehicle after a fatal collision on North Frederick Avenue that took a life last summer, as reported by the Montgomery County Department of Police. According to the details of the incident released by the department, the collision occurred near Travis Avenue on the night of July 20th where the excessive speed of a Ram 1500 pickup led to tragedy as it collided with a Nissan Altima emerging from a parking lot.
The inquiry into the accident laid bare the chain of events that led up to the tragedy, revealing how Lopez's pickup truck struck the Altima from behind and propelled both vehicles off the road in a violent impact against a tree – the analysis by the Collision Reconstruction Unit put the speed of Lopez's truck at almost 60 miles over the limit. Issac Akomanyi, the Altima's driver, later died in hospital from his injuries, while both a passenger in the Nissan and Jaramillo Lopez sustained injuries but survived, according to the police report.
The aftermath of the incident saw both vehicles being towed from the scene. Authorities confirmed that Jaramillo Lopez's blood alcohol content measured 0.159, double the legal limit, providing a stark premise for the charges filed against him. He remains in custody, facing grave consequences for the decisions of that fateful July evening.
