The Montgomery County Office of Human Rights (OHR) is accepting nominations for its prestigious Human Rights Hall of Fame, aimed at recognizing individuals committed to the advancement of civil rights and social justice within the county. As reported by Montgomery County's official press release, nominations for the 2024 Class will be accepted until the closing date on Monday, Nov. 25.
Highlighting both past pioneers and current civil rights activists, the Hall of Fame seeks to commend those whose contributions have made a lasting impact in Montgomery County. Nominees, who may be living or deceased, must have a track record of fighting discrimination and fostering fairness. "Our community’s strength comes from those who have fought tirelessly for fairness and equality,” County Executive Marc Elrich stated, as per Montgomery County. This esteemed recognition reminds the community of "the work still ahead" and furthers the county's commitment to a place where "every resident's rights are upheld, and every voice is valued."
The nomination process involves a review by a panel consisting of previous Hall of Fame inductees, who recommend a group of honorees for induction. The selected individuals will be celebrated at the induction ceremony scheduled for 7 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 15, at the BlackRock Center for the Arts in Germantown.
