A 16-year-old student at Pearl Cohn High School in Nashville was taken into police custody for making a mass shooting threat on Instagram, as detailed by the Metro Nashville Police Department. The arrest occurred this morning after the student reportedly sent "egregious threat to commit a mass shooting on Instagram," according to a WSMV report.
Screenshots of the threatening messages reached the school principal the night before the arrest. The student was quickly identified as the account holder, leading to apprehension by the institution's Rapid School Safety Team upon the student's arrival the following day—he confessed to the allegation of sending the threats and now faces charges of making a threat of mass violence alongside charges of false reporting in Juvenile Court as described in a FOX17 news article.
"Threats against schools, special events and businesses are taken very seriously by the MNPD. Those responsible, once identified, will be prosecuted," an official MNPD statement obtained by WKRN stressed, underscoring the gravity with which such incidents are handled by law enforcement.
