The National Weather Service in Nashville is reminding folks to prepare for a mix of sun and clouds, with a side of potentially hazardous fog throughout the week. As the mild temperatures hover in the high 50s during the day, things are expected to cool down come evening, with nightly lows dipping into the 30s. Yet, it's not just the swings between sweater and jacket weather keeping Western Middle Tennesseans on their toes.
Early risers on Wednesday were greeted with a fog thicker than a pot of oatmeal – visibility was down to less than 1/4 mile in some areas, as per the NWS advisory.
The advisory stretched over multiple counties including Stewart, Montgomery, and Davidson, urging caution from commuters and early birds. But the fog isn't planning to linger throughout the week. Forecasters project a windy shift, with gusts "as high as 30 mph" set to clear the skies turning them gradually sunny with a high near 59 today.
Looking ahead, the weekend promises a frosty turn with both Friday and Saturday nights set to potentially develop patchy frost after the wee hours. Gardeners, take heed to protect your vulnerable plants. The NWS's detailed forecast also suggests "areas of frost before 7am" for Saturday, so residents will want to plan accordingly to avoid any cold surprises. The sun should reclaim its throne fully by Sunday, with a mostly sunny high near 63 to thaw the chilly start.
Next week starts with a bit of indecision from Mother Nature–there's a 30 percent chance of showers come Monday, and by nightfall, it's likely to pour with a "Chance of precipitation is 60%," NWS indicates. Rain or shine, the temperatures are set to remain fairly mild, with highs peaking in the upper 60s at the beginning of the week. So while you may need to grab that umbrella, you can probably leave the heavy coat at home.
