Raleigh's African American history is featured in the "Centuries in the Making" exhibition. The exhibit, located in Historic South Park, highlights the history of the South Park and East Raleigh neighborhoods, created in collaboration with the South Park East Raleigh Neighborhood Association.

According to City of Raleigh announcement, the exhibit doesn't just highlight a few historical points, it pulls back the curtain on the legacies of the Black community, that shaped Raleigh into the city it is today. The spotlight is turned on Raleigh’s Black Main Street – an area better known as East Hargett Street – a once bustling hub that pulsated with the vitality of black-owned enterprises.

The exhibition delves into the integral role that historic Black schools played in education, explores the reverence of the community's churches, and reflects on the sacred silence of its cemeteries. Each element of the exhibit has been carefully curated to provide a holistic understanding of the social, economic, and spiritual dimensions that forged the communal experiences of African Americans in Raleigh.

The exhibition acknowledges both the struggles and triumphs of the past. It also affirms the resilience and innovation that define the history of Raleigh’s African American neighborhoods.
