Attention Bay Area drivers: Expect a detour if you're traveling through New Orleans next week. The City of New Orleans has announced a scheduled lane closure on Lincoln Beach Boulevard between Congress Drive and Press Drive, starting Monday, November 25. From 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., this stretch will be closed due to milling operations by the Department of Public Works (DPW) contractor, Boh Bros Construction Co., LLC. Motorists are advised to reroute via Press Drive, Prentiss Avenue, and Congress Drive to avoid the closure, as reported by the City of New Orleans website.
Safety, claimed to be the city's top priority, will guide the execution of the roadwork. Signage and various traffic control measures will direct both drivers and pedestrians around the construction, ensuring their journey remains as smooth as possible despite the inconvenience. The ongoing DPW774 project covers not only Lincoln Beach Boulevard but also Dowman Road and Providence Place. It aims to significantly improve road conditions through resurfacing, re-striping, and necessary repairs to sidewalks and underground water, sewer, and drainage lines.
According to the city’s announcement, crews will generally work Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. However, weekend construction may occur if needed to keep the project on schedule. The only caveat to these plans is the weather; if storms disrupt progress, the expected completion date of February 2025 may require flexibility.
New Orleans residents will need some patience as they await the completed improvements. The construction, managed by DPW and carried out by Boh Bros Construction Co., LLC, aims to enhance the city's infrastructure for both vehicles and pedestrians. For questions or updates on the project, locals can contact the Department of Public Works at 504-658-8000 or email [email protected].
