Goodlettsville was faced with a sudden disruption on Friday morning as a train derailment demanded immediate attention from local emergency services. Around 8:15 a.m., crews from the Goodlettsville Fire Department arrived at the scene near Long Hollow Pike to find multiple coal cars off the tracks, WSMV reports. According to the Goodlettsville Fire Chief, an "unknown mechanical malfunction" led to the derailment of the southbound empty cars which were dragged roughly two miles before the train came to a stop.
No injuries were reported in the incident, which also did not cause traffic interruptions, except for the obvious disruption to CSX railroad operations. The City of Goodlettsville TN Government, in a City of Goodlettsville Fire Department Facebook post, confirmed that the derailment started two miles from the track's final stop. The city specified that no safety concerns to the public have been raised, assuring residents that the situation is fully under control.
Officials estimate the necessary track repairs could take up to 30 hours, as detailed by the city. Contributing to the quick response, R.J. Corman Railroad Group is handling the repair work. In a statement shared by WKRN, CSX added, "All three cars are standing upright. No injuries were reported and there is no threat to the environment."
The derailment has led to a collaboration between city officials and local companies to speed up repairs. A crane will lift the damaged cars, and CSX will work with a local company to restore the tracks. While local road traffic remains unaffected, CSX's railroad traffic is paused as they handle the mechanical failure and extensive repair work ahead.
