Celebrating a nearly half-century tradition, North Miami is gearing up for its 49th Annual Winternational Thanksgiving Day Parade set tomorrow. The event, which starts at 10 a.m., is slated to be hosted by radio personalities Ivy Unleashed and Supa Cindy, known for livening up South Florida's airwaves and now expected to bring their dynamic energy to this premier Thanksgiving celebration.
With a combination of nostalgia and spectacle, the parade is expected to be led by North Miami City Councilman Scott Galvin. Serving the community for over 25 years, the festivities this year have added significance as Galvin celebrates his tenure during his final term in office, at a time when the parade marks its longevity. "The dynamic duo Ivy Unleashed and Supa Cindy will host this beloved tradition," detailed an announcement on the City of North Miami's official website.
The holiday spirit transcends as the parade boasts an array of entertainment and communal engagement. Onlookers can expect marching bands from both North Miami and North Miami Beach to weave through the streets alongside floats, Santa and Mrs. Claus, the Miami Heat Dancers, and local police cars gussied up for the occasion. The march starts at NE 6th Avenue, snakes along NE 125th Street, and culminates at NE 10th Avenue, with the main stage set before the steps of North Miami City Hall. "Attendees are encouraged to arrive early for the best spots," the City of North Miami's city's website advised, highlighting the limited seating available at the main stage.
The North Miami Police Department, in anticipation of a sizeable turnout, plans to manage the parade's impact on local traffic cautiously from 5 a.m. to 1 p.m., rerouting the day's usual flow to accommodate the day's special events. According to details from the City of North Miami announcement, NE 125th Street will be closed at NE 2nd Avenue with traffic directed North and South along NE 2nd Avenue. "Hard closures will be in effect on both the north and south sides of NE 125th Street, from Griffing Boulevard to NE 12th Avenue," the website indicates.
Inviting the community to share in the joy and memory-making, North Miami is ready to usher in the Thanksgiving holiday with its long-standing parade tradition. Whatever age or interest, there seems to be something offered for everyone in the grand mosaic of cultural celebrations that the Winternational Thanksgiving Day Parade embodies.
