A North Philadelphia community is reeling after a fatal shooting took place inside Pete's Pizza, a local eatery on Ridge Avenue, following what police suspect may have been an instance of road rage. The Philadelphia Police Department responded to reports of the incident shortly after midnight. It arrived at the scene to find a 26-year-old man shot in the head at the entrance of the pizza shop, as reported by FOX29.

According to authorities, the man was pronounced dead at the scene. The confrontation is believed to have stemmed from a minor vehicle collision that evolved into a violent encounter. Officers are actively searching for the gunman, described as a middle-aged man with shoulder-length dreadlocks, said to be gray, and driving a dark-colored SUV. Police are working to collect further surveillance footage that captured the incident from both the interior and exterior cameras, as detailed in a statement obtained by 6abc.

The deadly altercation began with a minor crash involving the victim's Honda and the suspect's SUV, Chief Inspector Scott Small revealed in a press conference. Following the accident, the men reportedly exchanged words outside of the pizza shop before moving inside, where the argument escalated to physical violence and, subsequently, shooting. "Homicide investigators will retrieve all the camera and recordings and, hopefully, we can get a license plate of the shooter's vehicle. But we also have a pretty good description of that shooter, with the shoulder-length dreadlocks that appear to be gray in color," Small told 6abc.

The grim occurrence at Pete's Pizza is not an isolated incident. Previously, in June, a pizza delivery driver named Danny Matthews was shot and killed outside the same establishment in an apparent robbery attempt. Matthews, 29, was ambushed returning from a delivery. Although the motive was robbery, no money was taken before the suspect fled the scene, according to details confirmed by authorities and reported by 6abc. Despite these violent events, Philadelphia has experienced a decrease in homicides this year, with the latest police data indicating the lowest year-to-date total in a decade, highlighted by NBC Philadelphia.
