The quest to unravel the circumstances surrounding Amanda Dean's disappearance advanced yesterday, as the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI) sought to thoroughly search once more the Huron County property of the man accused of her murder. In a case that has continuously evolved since Dean's last sighting on July 11, 2017, Frederick Reer, the victim's boyfriend at the time, stands charged with several heinous crimes. Reporting from WKYC noted Reer is accused of not only murder but also the gross abuse of a corpse and tampering with evidence.
Details of the indictment, as obtained by WKYC, paint a grim picture of the alleged crime. Reer is suspected of having terminated Dean's life on a bed within a shared shack, subsequently dismembering her body. After that, he is believed to have attempted to obliterate the evidence, setting the mattress ablaze and disposing of the blood-stained sheets. Despite these alleged efforts, Dean's remains remain undiscovered. Reer's current status is that he is detained at Huron County Jail, and his bond is fixed at a staggering $1 million.
Dean's family's reality has been wrought with mystery and heartache. A missing person report was initially filed and then puzzlingly canceled, as Sheriff Todd Corbin assured the family of Dean's safety in a "safe house. " The case stagnated. According to News 5 Cleveland, it was only after considerable pressure from the family in late 2022 that this case was thrown back into motion.
The Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost's office and BCI took over the investigation in 2022, ensuring a continuous push for justice in a haunting case. Cleveland19 mentions that details about what was found during previous searches remain undisclosed. Meanwhile, Reer is set to return to court on Nov. 14 for a bond hearing. Fate continues to hold in the balance as a family seeks closure and a seemingly indifferent world watches on.
