The Oklahoma House Republicans have elected new leadership for the 60th Legislature, maintaining a supermajority with 81 seats. Rep. Stan May of Broken Arrow was re-elected as Caucus Chair for a second term. Rep. Nick Archer of Elk City will serve as Vice Chair, while Rep. Josh Cantrell of Kingston has been chosen as Caucus Secretary. These new roles are set for the upcoming legislative session, according to the Oklahoma House of Representatives.
May, who previously served as vice chair for the House Appropriations & Budget Subcommittee on Judiciary, was quoted saying, "I am honored to have been elected by my colleagues to serve for a second term." His priorities for the upcoming term include economic development, educational improvements, and public safety, as reported by the Oklahoma House of Representatives.
Archer, serving his second term as a legislator after a term as mayor, said, "I am grateful to have the opportunity to serve the House Republican Caucus, my district and the people of Oklahoma," focusing on his goal to uphold conservative values. Cantrell, transitioning from his role as Marshall County Commissioner, remarked, "I appreciate the trust placed in me to serve in this role," as he prepares to bring his experience to his new position. The leadership has shifted from former Vice Chair Rep. Danny Williams and former Secretary Rep. Sherrie Conley. The newly sworn-in state representatives are preparing for the Organizational Day on January 7, 2025, with the first session scheduled for February 3, as stated by the Oklahoma House of Representatives.
