On the night of November 2nd, a tank truck carrying jet fuel was involved in a multi-vehicle collision on the northbound 110 Freeway. According to the Los Angeles Fire Department, the incident occurred at 10:55 PM near Florence, resulting in the truck landing on its side. The crash trapped one individual under the vehicle who was later determined deceased, while a 30-year-old female was transported with minor injuries. The northbound 110 Freeway closure at Manchester prompted drivers to seek alternate routes.
Firefighters on the scene responded by working to contain any spilled fuel, utilizing a redwood plug to stop one of the leaks in the tank. The update from LAFD indicated that additional resources, including vacuum trucks, Class B foam, and sand were dispatched to assist in mitigating the hazardous situation. The operation to manage the spill and the subsequent freeway closure were expected to be prolonged.
Early the following morning, the LAFD continued their containment efforts as CalTrans provided absorbent materials. Simultaneously, firefighters drilled holes into the tank for fuel offloading, working alongside private wreckers who prepared the overturned tank for removal. In a report by LAFD, it was noted that a total of three patients were involved: the deceased, identified as a 45-year-old male, a 30-year-old female with minor injuries, and no contact with the tank truck driver who had been privately transported to the hospital. The California Highway Patrol (CHP) took charge of the accident investigation.
