An incident at an Anaheim party early Sunday resulted in one fatality and three hospitalizations. Following reports of a medical emergency, the Anaheim Police Department arrived at the 1500 block of Benmore Lane shortly after 1 a.m. and discovered four adult males unconscious, as reported by CBS Los Angeles. One of the men was pronounced dead at the scene, his identity remains unconfirmed. The other three victims were in critical condition and were taken to a hospital for treatment.
Officers located "a white powder substance" near the victims, prompting a hazardous materials response, said Sgt. Armando Pardo, as stated in KTLA's coverage. Residents in the vicinity were evacuated as a safety precaution but were able to return to their homes approximately three hours later after the hazmat team cleared the scene.
This incident draws attention to the critical need for emergency and investigative services to quickly and safely address potential overdose situations. With the ongoing investigation, authorities have not publicly speculated on what the substance could be, nor have they made any arrests at this time. "The investigation is ongoing," as FOX LA noted.
