Tragedy struck east Columbus this morning when gunfire erupted, resulting in one person dead and another critically injured, according to reports from local law enforcement.
Officers responding to multiple calls of shots fired arrived at the 1700 block of East Main Street around 10:15 a.m. It was in the area between Bulen and Fairwood avenues that they discovered two individuals. One was pronounced dead at the location, while the other was transported to Grant Medical Center and listed in critical condition. WBNS detailed this information.
Assistant Chief Greg Bodker explained that an altercation had occurred, leading to an exchange of gunfire between two people at the backdoor of a residence, which set the stage for the violent outcome. However, it remains undisclosed whether other parties were involved or injured in the fray, as reported by NBC4i.
Details surrounding the circumstances of the shooting and the relationship between the individuals involved remain unclear. Officials have not disclosed how many shots were fired during the incident, and, as of now, the identities of both the deceased and the injured have not been released; the ongoing investigation aims to uncover these missing pieces, as indicated by ABC6.
