St. Paul's RiverCentre was abuzz this month as over 2,000 high school students from the local area converged for the third annual Career Connect Day. The event, a collaborative effort by Workforce Solutions and the St. Paul Area Chamber, acted as a bridge between eager young minds and leading professionals from more than 80 businesses and organizations. With the intent to stoke the fires of curiosity and ambition, the day was set aside for students to engage firsthand with potential career pathways.
Among the plethora of opportunities, students had access to resources ranging from job hunting assistance to driver's license applications— an essential tool for embarking on the road to employment. Thanks to the Workforce Innovation Board of Ramsey County, a logistical hurdle was overcome by providing busing, which ferried students to and from the venue. This logistical feat, according to a statement obtained by the Ramsey County government, made it possible for a diverse group of students to attend.
The value of such an event cannot be overstated as it opens doors that might otherwise remain closed and obscured to many adolescents at the cusp of adulthood.
