Traffic came to a standstill on the Yolo Causeway yesterday afternoon when a big rig overturned, leading to a full blockade of westbound lanes. According to KCRA, the incident, whose cause still remains unexplained, occurred near the Webster area on Interstate 80, dispatching the California Highway Patrol officers at around 1:29 p.m. Motorists encountered delays and were advised to find different routes.
Adding to the complications, a separate crash involving a pickup truck towing a trailer completely blocked westbound traffic on the causeway, according to the California Highway Patrol Woodland office. The incident occurred just before 1:30 p.m. near the midpoint of the causeway. No injuries were reported, and no other vehicles were involved. A tow truck worked to clear the scene, successfully restoring traffic flow by around 4:30 p.m. Drivers were urged to detour during the recovery process.
As noted by CBS Sacramento, while the California Highway Patrol did not explicitly blame the windy conditions present at the time for the crash, they were certainly observed during the time of the incident.
Throughout the afternoon, CHP and emergency crews worked through gusty winds, which may have contributed to the incident. The crash caused an unexpected disruption, halting people's plans and turning normal travel into a frustrating wait. By evening, thanks to the efforts of CHP and tow services, traffic was cleared, and drivers were able to resume their journeys, though later than expected.
