An Oxnard man faces a severe sentence after being convicted of sexually assaulting two minors, an announcement from the Ventura County District Attorney Erik Nasarenko confirmed. Anibal Paz Perez, born on January 31, 1977, was found guilty of one count of an unlawful act with a child, two counts of lewd act upon a child, and one count of aggravated sexual assault of a child, during crimes that involved two young victims below the age of 14, both deemed vulnerable by the court and subjected to the abuses because of Perez's position of trust.
The convictions stem from incidents in 2018 and 2022 where Perez molested a nine-year-old girl at a community pool and later, in his own home, committed crimes against a thirteen-year-old girl while residing in the city of Oxnard, the jury's findings addressed all aggravating circumstances and special allegations, acknowledging the extent of Perez's substantial sexual conduct and the breach of trust inherent in his actions.
Deputy District Attorney Rosa Romero, representing the Ventura County District Attorney’s Office, expressed her deep appreciation to everyone involved ."I extend my sincere gratitude to the jury for their careful and thorough consideration of all the evidence," Mrs. Romero said, "Although justice for these victims was delayed, their verdict means that it was not ultimately denied. I hope that this verdict provides the victims with a sense of closure as they continue their journey towards healing."
Pending his sentencing on November 25, Perez could receive up to 80 years to life imprisonment; the penalties reflecting the severity of his conviction which include charges of unlawful act with a child under 10, lewd act upon a child and aggravated sexual assault of a child - this according to the Ventura County District Attorney’s office which prosecuted the case and fought for justice on behalf of the victims.
