Pasco County Man Charged with DUI Manslaughter After ATV Accident Claims LifeSource: Facebook/Florida Highway Patrol

An incident occurred last night in Pasco County when a passenger was ejected from an ATV and subsequently died after being run over by the vehicle. WFLA reports that the Florida Highway Patrol stated the accident occurred around 8:48 p.m. on a private road behind a Sunoco gas station. Ford K. Perkins, a 32-year-old from Spring Hill, was identified as the driver who lost control while driving in circles, ejecting a 35-year-old man from the right front seat before the ATV flipped over, running him over.

According to FOX 13 News, Perkins then fled the scene on foot, leaving behind his passenger who later died due to the injuries sustained in the crash. Perkins was shortly found near the crash site, and troopers arrested him for DUI manslaughter and leaving the scene of a crash involving death. Notably, it was reported that a second passenger present during the incident, a 24-year-old Spring Hill man, was not injured in the crash.

Perkins was driving a Polaris side-by-side ATV when the crash occurred, behind the Sunoco Gas Station located at 16621 Shady Hills Road. Amidst their circling maneuvers, control was lost which led to the fatal ejection and subsequent death of the 35-year-old man. ABC Action News adds that the Florida Highway Patrol confirmed the victim, having been flung from the vehicle as it capsized, was grievously injured when the ATV traveled over him.

The Florida Highway Patrol's investigation into the accident is ongoing, and they have yet to release further details.
