
Kaumuali‘i Highway became the scene of a somber interruption this past Sunday as a pedestrian incident prompted road closure and police investigation. According to a report from Kauaʻi Government officials, a man was hit by a vehicle while he attempted to cross the highway in Kekaha.
The incident, which occurred near Elepaio Road at approximately 7:20 p.m., involved a 2020 Nissan SUV and a 79-year-old pedestrian from Princeville. Faced with serious injuries, the man was swiftly transported to Wilcox Medical Center, where he remains in stable condition. Subsequent to the accident, traffic came to a halt in both directions of the highway for about an hour and 45 minutes, as Kauaʻi Police Department's Traffic Safety Section took the lead on the scene for investigation purposes.
A deeper look into the situation reveals that neither speed nor impairment is considered a part of the cause at this stage. The Kauaʻi Police Department is continuing with their probe to understand the full circumstances surrounding the event.
