A Philadelphia jury has found three men guilty of first-degree murder in a planned attack that left two teenagers dead in West Philadelphia, marking the close of a case that spanned over three years since the violent incident occurred on June 11, 2021. The men convicted, Rayfiq Tiggle, Tariq Chambers, and Isaiah Jones, were sentenced to life without parole with an additional 20 to 40 years each for conspiracy, the office of the District Attorney said, as PhillyDA.org reported.

On the day of the fatal shooting Nasir Brooks and Steven Griffin, both teenagers, were walking in the vicinity of 55th and Arch Streets when the three men, having driven to the location in a white Nissan Altima, executed the assault, firing a total of 16 shots at the two individuals who succumbed to their injuries on that same street, according to The Philadelphia Inquirer. Within moments after the shooting, police located the vehicle involved on Olive Street, and the assailants were arrested in December 2022 culminating in this week's sentencing.

District Attorney Larry Krasner praised the work of the Philadelphia Police Department and Assistant District Attorney Sean Perez for their roles in the investigation and prosecution of this case, "Thanks to the Philadelphia Police Department for their very thorough investigation and to Assistant District Attorney Sean Perez for his skillful prosecution of this difficult case, these three defendants no longer pose a threat to the community," Krasner said in a statement obtained by PhillyDA.org. Krasner also remarked on the broader issue of gun violence in the city, acknowledging the decline in homicides but emphasizing the need for continued enforcement and prevention efforts. While the convictions have brought an end to this particular case, ADA Sean Perez expressed that this outcome cannot undo the loss experienced by the victims' families, saying, "And while this conviction cannot bring Nasir Brooks and Steven Griffin back to life, I hope that these convictions bring some solace to their families."

DA Krasner also acknowledged the tragedy for all families involved and noted in a statement to The Philadelphia Inquirer, "It is in fact tragedy all around for the families of all five of those people, who have — in one way or another — essentially lost their lives." Appeals are expected by the attorneys of Chambers and Jones, though Tiggle's representation has yet to be reached for a comment.

The investigation, aided by an eyewitness tip and video surveillance, combined with cell location data, placed Tiggle, Chambers, and Jones at the scene during the time of the murders, detail provided by the district attorney's office as reported by CBS News Philadelphia. The swift location of the getaway vehicle and the ties to a nearby residence that matched the car’s registration were pivotal in progressing the case leading to the recent sentencing.
