On October 24, around 3:42 PM, a Pierce County deputy initiated a traffic stop on a motorcyclist speeding and lacking registration tags. During the stop, the motorcyclist drew a gun on the deputy, according to the Pierce County Sheriff's Department.

After stopping at the 7800 block of 174th St Ct E, the deputy approached the motorcyclist, who "as he approached the rider turned the bike back on." Believing the rider was attempting to flee, the deputy pushed him off the motorcycle into a fence. The rider then pulled a gun from his waistband, leading to a standoff in which the deputy drew his firearm. The suspect threw the gun over the fence and waited for backup before being handcuffed. The investigation revealed the firearm was stolen from Kent, and the motorcycle, registered in Georgia, lacked Washington registration, as reported by the Pierce County Sheriff's Department.

The 20-year-old man, who was not allowed to possess or conceal a firearm due to his age, also had a suspended license and no motorcycle endorsement. He was booked into the Pierce County Jail on multiple charges, including Suspended Driving in the 2nd Degree, Obstruction, Possessing a Stolen Firearm, and Unlawful Possession of a Firearm in the 2nd Degree. After the incident, the deputy "pointed out how much worse it could have been," as stated by the Pierce County Sheriff's Department.
