Pierce County Elections held a post-election audit of its ballot counting equipment in Tacoma, confirming the integrity of the vote tallying process used during the 2024 General Election. As per official reports, this procedure took place at 9:30 a.m. yesterday at the Pierce County Election Center. The county, following a mandate outlined by state law RCW 29A.60.170, checks the equipment after each election, ensuring that the machinery's output aligns with manually counted votes.
Part of this transparency exercise, the batch audit included a hand count and a machine count of the Pierce County Executive race across five batches of approximately 250 ballots. While maintaining strict oversight, representatives from the Republican Party, the Democratic Party, and the League of Women Voters of Tacoma-Pierce County were present, observing the process to ensure accuracy and fairness.
The successful audit offers reassurance to Pierce County residents that their votes are being accurately counted and that the election systems are functioning as intended. According to the Pierce County announcement, the audit confirmed that all results matched, validating the accuracy of the election process. As election procedures continue to be closely examined, these verification efforts are important for maintaining the integrity of the system.
