Disco Dragon, an Asian-inspired eatery with a flair for neon and unexpected décor, has shut its doors in downtown Phoenix's Roosevelt Row. The restaurant, which had been a staple for pan-Asian cuisine and neon green ambiance since its opening in May 2022, announced its closure yesterday, in a social media post that has since been deleted.
But fans of the unique dining experience have cause for solace. Sam Olguin and Brenon Stuart, the innovative minds behind Disco Dragon, have declared their intentions to revive their other venture, Pretty Penny. According to an announcement by AZCentral, the upscale restaurant will relocate to the vacated space left by Disco Dragon, aiming to open its doors, come December 4.
Pretty Penny, known for its limited yet cutting-edge kitchen operations, seeks to enhance its culinary offerings with this move. "It blows my mind every day the level of food they cook out of 70 square feet," Olguin shared in a statement obtained by Phoenix New Times. The full-sized kitchen that the former Disco Dragon space offers propels the Pretty Penny team to dream bigger, with plans to incorporate a steak program and an expanded pasta and crudo selection.
For those intrigued by the enigmatic F.Y.P.M., the cocktail oasis bathed in the glow of pink, fear not. The hidden bar, a finalist for Best New U.S. Cocktail Bar, and the adrenaline shot to cocktail geeks' experience according to Phoenix New Times, remains in operation. Patrons will just find their libations through the back entrance during renovations.
