In a surprising turn of events in Riverside County, the District Attorney's Office has not yet charged a 46-year-old Homeland man, William Vandenbush, despite his arrest during what appeared to be a vigilante-led sting operation targeting sexual predators. According to KTLA, Vandenbush was ambushed by teens at Nicolas Road Park in Temecula after allegedly sending harmful matter to a minor and trying to meet her for sexual purposes on Nov. 15.
After the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department had detained Vandenbush at the scene, surrounded by onlookers and juveniles recording the encounter, the case was presented to the district attorney. Then, prosecutors sent the case back to the sheriff's department, suggesting more evidence was needed before moving forward with charges, as recounted by CBS News Los Angeles. Concerned members of the public, initially posing as the teenage girl, had tipped off the authorities to the meetup.
In compliance with the proper investigative channels, the sheriff's department had responded to a tip about the suspect, culminating in the man's detention. "The investigation revealed that Vandenbush had sent nude photographs and made arrangements to meet with a minor for sexual purposes," detailed a release by the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department, as reported by Hoodline.
The Sheriff's Department has released a statement urging the public to immediately report any child sexual abuse or online sexual exploitation of minors to law enforcement. The Riverside County Sheriff's Department can be contacted at (951) 696-3000 for anyone with information related to the investigation involving Vandenbush.
