It was a spooktacular affair this past Halloween at Rollins Park in Rimrock/Lake Montezuma where the Yavapai County Sheriff's Office (YCSO) showed up, not to spook, but to treat. Attended by hundreds, this Trunk or Treat event became a neighborhood hit, with YCSO Volunteers in Protection (VIP) personnel doling out sweets and smiles to the costumed young attendees.
According to a release on YCSO’s official website, not only were there candies, but kids also got their hands on Deputy Do Right and K-9 Jr Deputy stickers, coveted Do Right trading cards that promote bicycle safety, along with trooper hats emblazoned with the recognizable YCSO decal.
The night wasn't without its fair share of humor as one youthful ghoul proved by asking, "What is the favorite food of a ghost?" The answer? "ice cream ...... 'I scream'" they revealed, as per the YCSO. This was more than a celebration; it was an affirmation of the YCSO's presence in the community, embodying a spirit of approachable law enforcement that goes beyond the badge.
In a gesture that is the sweetness at these events often miss, the many thanks and messages of support for the YCSO's continuous effort to keep their areas safe were received from the community. "We appreciate the many folks who offered us kind words of thanks and support for keeping their communities safe all year round," the YCSO stated, reminding that the bonds between law enforcement and community are fostered not just in moments of crisis, but in these shared celebrations.
