Early Monday morning, the Los Angeles Fire Department battled a significant fire in downtown Los Angeles that resulted in the collapse of a building's roof. The structure, recognized as a vacant commercial building at the intersection of Flower Street and Cameron Lane, was engulfed in flames that were first reported around 4 a.m. Sky5 provided footage showing the extent of the damage to the two-story establishment, according to KTLA.
The LAFD immediately adopted a "defensive operation" as crews worked to protect adjacent structures, indicating a high concern for the spread of the fire. Firefighters were soon seen on the tops of neighboring roofs to confidently manage the situation from above, as reported by LAFD alerts.
The firefighting operation went on to impact nearby traffic as the fire continued to burn through the early morning hours. As of 5:40 a.m., the cause of the fire had not been identified, with no additional information readily available, as per KTLA.
The incident, which drew more than 80 firefighters to the scene, was brought under control in two hours and 33 minutes. As per the LAFD update, which confirmed the knockdown of the fire with no reported injuries. Despite the absence of casualties, the LAFD continued their work on site, carrying out overhaul operations to ensure safety and stability in the aftermath of the event.
