Earlier today break-in at a Ruskin home ended fatally for an armed suspect after the homeowner's son fired multiple gunshots. The incident occurred around 12:24 a.m. in the 3000 block of Double D Ranch Trail, as reported by WFLA. Hillsborough County Sheriff's deputies arrived to find the suspect dead at the scene.
The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office later confirmed the suspect's death, noting the homeowner's adult son as responsible for the shooting, in defense of the home invasion, according to details from a WTSP news release. "Imagine the fear of being awoken in the middle of the night to a stranger invading your home," Sheriff Chad Chronister was quoted in the release. "This is every homeowner’s greatest fear, a dangerous and brazen individual breaking in, showing a complete disregard for the safety and security of others."
The sheriff's office has initiated an investigation into the incident which involves an armed residential burglary, as per the agency's standard protocol. More updates are expected to be made available through their Public Affairs Office, though no further information on the case or the identities of those involved has been disclosed at this time.
Underscoring the severity of the circumstance, Sheriff Chronister extended his thoughts towards the affected family, "Our thoughts are with this family as they recover from the trauma of this event," he told the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office.
