With the first bonds set to be issued early next year, planned improvements include renovations to public market buildings, redevelopment of primary waterfront sites, and repairs to the boardwalk and K Street Barge. Mayor Darrell Steinberg stated, "With this plan, we have the opportunity to modernize our waterfront for the next 60 years."
In the name of enriching Sacramento's riverfront and marking its historical legacy, the second phase of the program, still pending council approval, dedicates up to an additional $15 million. This subsequent funding will be designated for the complete buildout of the public market buildings and the surrounding open space, thereby setting the stage for a reimagined downtown experience.
