Two individuals are receiving medical attention for major injuries following a head-on collision in the Arden-Arcade area yesterday. The incident, which involved two SUVs, occurred on the 4300 block of El Camino Avenue, as reported by ABC10. The Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District stated that the crash was reported near El Camino High School Center for the Arts around 4:30 p.m.
Emergency crews from the Sacramento Metro Fire District found one person on the ground, thrown from one of the cars, and the second person was extricated by the crews from the other involved vehicle, as mentioned by KCRA 3. It was unknown at the time of discovery whether the individual found outside was ejected during the collision or came out of the vehicle subsequently.
The nature of the crash was such that a man who was allegedly driving westbound on El Camino Avenue at a high rate of speed, lost control of his SUV after hitting a raised center median and veered into the eastbound lanes. This resulted in the head-on collision with a second SUV, driven by a woman heading eastbound. Following the accident, both individuals were transported to a hospital with severe injuries, and the man was arrested on suspicion of DUI, as per details from the California Highway Patrol obtained by ABC10.
This incident has raised concerns once again about the prevalence of high-speed chases leading to accidents and is yet another reminder of the hazards of DUI on Sacramento's roads. The full extent of the two individuals' injuries remains unclear, but updates will be provided as officials make more information available. The incident prompted a response from local authorities and slowed down traffic in the area significantly, with further updates to come from KCRA 3 as the situation develops.
