A San Antonio teenager, Jacob Rios, 19, had his murder charge dismissed for the shooting death of 80-year-old Heidi Silkworth, according to court records. The charge was dismissed without an indictment on October 24, the records show, cited by KSAT.
Rios, alongside an unidentified 16-year-old male, was arrested on July 27 concerning the fatal incident that occurred on May 26. The shooting unfolded around 10 p.m. along East César E. Chávez Boulevard when Rios and the minor allegedly attempted to rob another individual. In what can only be described as an unraveling of chaos, the robbery victim, who was armed, began to shoot at Rios and his accomplice, according to the San Antonio police.
Headtopics reports that in response, Rios and the 16-year-old fired back as they fled from the scene of the robbery. During this exchange of gunfire, Silkworth, who was simply passing by the scene in an SUV after having attended a graduation at the Alamodome, suffered a fatal gunshot wound to her head, as stated by San Antonio police.
The details of the shootout left one person critically injured, but it's unclear who exactly was hurt—whether it was Rios, the 16-year-old, or the intended robbery victim, according to police. Although Rios' charge was dropped, the investigation into the shooting is still ongoing.
