
A fire at the Potiker Family Senior Residence on 14th Street in San Diego's East Village prompted an evacuation of the building yesterday afternoon, with multiple emergency crews responding to the incident. According to a social media post from the San Diego Fire Department, the fire was successfully subdued and was caused by a mattress catching ablaze on the fifth floor. As crews worked to remove smoke and salvage items, the area around the building was restricted.

Moving swiftly to aid, the Red Cross offered their assistance to help the thirty displaced residents due to water damage as firefighters battled the fire that the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department indicated had originated from "smoking materials" in one of the apartments, residents that were not affected by the incident were allowed back into their homes by the evening. A report by FOX 5 San Diego stated one individual was transported to the hospital for treatment of smoke inhalation while several others were evaluated on-site.
The emergency response enlisted a considerable deployment of 92 personnel, including 13 fire engines and responders from San Diego National City and Coronado, to tackle the blaze collectively.
