San Francisco Police officers found themselves in a harrowing situation in Ellis and Fillmore Streets yesterday morning when they were called to a scene of domestic animals in distress. According to the San Francisco Police Department's release, officers responded to a report of three dogs allegedly attacking another dog around 10:50 a.m. Upon arrival, they encountered one of the dogs attacking a pedestrian instead.
The incident rapidly escalated, leading to an officer discharging their weapon, resulting in the death of one of the attacking dogs. Following this, a second dog was safely secured with help from Animal Care and Control (ACC), while a chase unfolded as officers pursued the third dog on foot. Through these exertions, the runaway canine was eventually subdued and safely contained with ACC's assistance.
The aftermath of this encounter left a pedestrian with severe but non-life-threatening injuries, necessitating transportation to a local hospital. The owner of the dog initially under attack sought veterinary aid for their pet, although details on its condition remain sparse.
As of the latest updates from the department, officers are comprehensively investigating the circumstances of this incident, which remains an active case. The SFPD is asking anyone with insight or additional information to come forward and contact them directly at 1-415-575- 4444 or to Text a Tip to TIP411, initiating the message with 'SFPD'.
