The San José Police Department has apprehended a man in connection with over a hundred cases of retail theft throughout the city, incidents that have been occurring since March this year. According to a press release issued by the San José Police Department, 41-year-old San José resident Johnny Pena is accused of stealing a significant quantity of merchandise, valued at tens of thousands of dollars, from a variety of retailers including Home Depot, Lowes, Dick’s Sporting Goods, and Target.
Following a thorough investigation by the SJPD Organized Retail Theft Detail, detectives secured an arrest warrant for Pena. The specialized unit, which has been funded by an $8.4 million grant from the California Board of State and Community Corrections, ultimately located and arrested Pena last Monday. Upon his arrest, Pena was booked into the Santa Clara County Main Jail on charges of grand theft.
As per the San José Police Department, Chief Paul Joseph underscored the gravity of Pena's alleged actions, "This is an example of someone who has a blatant disregard for the law, victimizing over one hundred businesses here in San José," Joseph stated.
