Sandy Springs residents have the opportunity to weigh in on the future of their community's transportation and urban development at the final open house for the North Springs MARTA Corridor Study. According to an announcement released by the City of Sandy Springs, this event is set for November 18, offering the public a closer look at the revised concepts for the North Springs MARTA Station and the corresponding Peachtree Dunwoody Road area. The open house will take place at Sandy Springs City Hall from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
After initial concepts were introduced in August, feedback from locals has helped to shape these new designs. In efforts to transparently communicate changes and to better collect additional community opinions, the project team will be present to explain the station and corridor concepts in detail. To further extend the engagement window, an online survey will be made available post-event, remaining open through December 1. Information and a link to this survey can be found on the project website.
At the core of the North Springs MARTA Corridor Study is the city's ambition to transform the North Springs Station into a more walkable and accessible destination. Detailed within the study are plans for a transit-oriented development concept that aims to not just revamp the station's layout but also to coherently integrate it with the planned extension of the PATH400 greenway. Additionally, the city aims to sustainably enhance multimodal street design to increase safety and comfort along Peachtree Dunwoody Road, directly tying into the station's broader area.
The initiative is propelled by the collaboration between the City of Sandy Springs, the Atlanta Regional Commission, MARTA, and the Perimeter Community Improvement Districts. With a common goal, these entities are working closely to ensure that the station site’s redevelopment will serve to better connect citizens, empower local economics, and foster a sense of placemaking within the community. All those interested in the future of Sandy Springs’ transit options and urban design are encouraged to participate in the upcoming open house to voice their ideas and concerns.
