In San Antonio, a traffic stop escalated when a man allegedly showed a firearm, leading a police officer to shoot and injure the suspect. The incident occurred early Thursday morning near Padre Drive and Napier Avenue on the South Side, after earlier attempts to stop the man's vehicle had been called off, according to KSAT.

When the vehicle stopped, the man threatened the approaching officer with a weapon, "When the vehicle pulled over and the officer was approaching, McManus said the driver pointed a gun out the window at the officer," KSAT details. The officer, left with little recourse, used their service arm to shoot the man in the shoulder, after which he was transported to a hospital and found to be in stable condition.

Further details have emerged about the suspect and the officer involved in the standoff. Chief McManus confirmed that the man shot was in his 40s, a documented gang member with a criminal history. "The officer has been on the force for three to four years," as stated by KENS 5. As per departmental protocol, the officer has been reassigned to administrative duty while the incident is investigated.
