The Metropolitan Police Department has reported the arrest of a second individual in connection with a homicide in Southeast Washington, D.C. earlier this year. According to MPD, on the evening of January 16, police responded to reports of gunfire on the 2400 block of S Street, Southeast. Officers found 23-year-old Javonni Coleman suffering from several gunshot wounds. Coleman was later pronounced dead at the scene and his remains were transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner for further investigation.

Following months of inquiry, MPD apprehended 28-year-old Delonte Terrell from Brandywine, MD on November 7. The arrest was made by the Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force at around 3:40 pm. Terrell has since been transported to the Homicide Branch and was charged with Second Degree Murder while Armed based on a DC Superior Court warrant for his arrest. A prior arrest had been made in this case—on August 7, when another suspect, a 21-year-old man hailing from Oxon Hill, MD, was taken into custody under similar charges.

MPD has not disclosed any further information regarding the motive behind Coleman's killing or the connection between the two men arrested and the victim. Members of the community looking for updates on the case or with information that can aid the investigation are encouraged to contact the MPD directly.
