Emergency crews responded to a single-vehicle traffic collision this afternoon in Somerset, according to the El Dorado County Fire Protection District. The incident, which occurred on Mount Aukum Rd near Tiger Eye Rd at approximately 12:43 p.m., involved serious injury to at least one individual who was subsequently transported by air to a medical facility.

In a detailed post on their official Facebook page, the El Dorado County Fire Protection District reported that Engine 319, Medic 25, and CAL FIRE Engine 2781 were dispatched for the rescue efforts, Medic 25 treated one patient with serious injuries and facilitated their transport to Pioneer Park, thereafter Reach 17 air ambulance continued the transport to Sutter Roseville Medical Center providing critical care en route.

Interestingly, a dog was also involved in the collision and required assistance. While uninjured, the pet was trapped amidst the wreckage and crew members from Engine 319 and Pioneer Fire Protection District Engine 338 worked together to free the animal. Initially, there was concern as the dog was unaccounted for, however, it was eventually located in a tight spot within the damaged vehicle and rescued.
