In a disturbing early morning episode, a woman was shot in her face during an attempted robbery at a Southeast Houston apartment complex. Police report that the victim had just returned from work and was entering her apartment complex on the Gulf Freeway near Maxwell Lane when the assailant, presumed to be a man, followed her into the parking lot at around 1:30 a.m. yesterday, according to Click2Houston.
The suspect reportedly demanded money, and "During that exchange, the suspect fired a round, striking her in the face," HPD Lt. Riley told Click2Houston. After the shooting, the woman managed to run quickly to her apartment and call 911 for assistance. She was then transported to the hospital in stable condition, while the shooter escaped without being immediately apprehended or identified.
Further reporting by KHOU indicates that the incident took place off the I-45 south of Highway 90 Alt, with the woman bravely reacting by seeking sanctuary in her residence and alerting law enforcement. Officials from the Houston Police Department and the Houston Fire Department responded, and she was later admitted to an area hospital for treatment.
