A tragic crash Saturday night in Franklin County resulted in the death of a 76-year-old St. Clair man and seriously injured three teenagers, authorities said. The Missouri State Highway Patrol reported the collision occurred on the North Outer Road near Marcus Drive around 9 p.m.
Driving a 2010 Mazda 3, the elderly man was declared dead after an hour in an ambulance en route to a hospital, as asserted by KSDK. Also hailing from St. Clair, the survivors — an 18-year-old woman driving a 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee and her two passengers, girls aged 15 and 17 — were reported to have sustained serious injuries in the crash.
The Highway Patrol disclosed that the man's Mazda was traveling west when it crossed the center line, leading to the collision with the eastbound Jeep, as noted by FOX2now. Following the impact, the Mazda spun off the road, while the Jeep struck a guard rail and came to a halt.
The Jeep's young driver and two teenage passengers were not wearing their seat belts as reported, taken to Mercy Hospital Washington and Missouri Baptist Hospital with serious injuries, according to the official crash report. After crossing the centerline the Mazda's driver, who was wearing his seat belt as per the report, "was inattentive to the roadway around him," and caused the fatal accident, KSDK cited from the MSHP report.
Further details on the conditions of the injured teens were not immediately available, but they were last listed in serious condition as reported by FirstAlert4. Investigations into the crash are ongoing, and no additional information has been released at this time.
