St. Johns County has announced the closures of its various government offices during the Thanksgiving holiday. According to a recent release, all county administrative departments, including the libraries and bookmobile, will be taking a brief hiatus on Thursday, Nov. 28, and Friday, Nov. 29, giving their employees time off to celebrate the holiday.

The pause in services will also extend to the Supervisor of Elections Office, the Property Appraiser’s Office, and other key government agencies. St. Johns County libraries, however, will swing back to their routine business hours starting on Saturday, Nov. 30, and the remaining offices are set to reopen on Monday, Dec. 2.

Traditional waste services will also be impacted by the holiday schedule. In a statement obtained by St. Johns County, "Garbage, recycling, and yard waste will NOT be collected on Thursday, Nov. 28, and the Tillman Ridge and Stratton Road solid waste scale houses will be closed." This will inevitably push back the collection schedule, with services resuming the following day and running one day late until everything is caught up by Saturday, Nov. 30. Residents can expect the scale houses to return to standard operating hours beginning on Friday, Nov. 29.

To help manage the change in waste collection schedules and keep residents informed, the county is promoting the Recycle Coach app. The app and the county's recycling website offer a wealth of information, allowing people to easily find out when their curbside collection will occur, sign up for alerts, and discover the correct ways to dispose of various household waste.
