A 1-year-old boy died in St. Petersburg after being left in a hot car for the day, according to local police. The St. Petersburg Police Department said the child was found unresponsive in the back seat of his father's car at Kindercare Bayfront Child Development Center on 6th Avenue South just after 5 p.m. yesterday, according to a WFLA report.
The boy's father arrived to pick his son up from daycare, and it was disclosed that the child had not shown up to the facility at all that day by the staff, as FOX 13 reports. Discovered in the backseat of his car moments later, the child had apparently remained there throughout Tampa Bay's record-high temperature of 91 degrees, with a heat index soaring to 101 degrees.
The father called authorities after finding his son, and St. Petersburg Police responded quickly. Sadly, the boy was pronounced dead at the scene. The police are investigating to determine if charges are warranted, according to a WTSP report.
