This morning, a routine commute was disrupted in Maitland when a SunRail train collided with a car. According to the City of Maitland, the incident occurred at approximately 9:30 a.m. at the intersection of Horatio Avenue and Maitland Avenue. WFTV reported that the crash led to the closure of the intersecting roads, causing delays for motorists who were advised to proceed with caution or to avoid the area altogether.
Maitland police and fire officials responded to the scene and managed the aftermath. Posted on the city's Facebook page, the collision resulted in one of the vehicles flipping and landing near the train tracks. Despite the accident's severity and the daunting sight of a car overturned, no serious injuries were reported, as detailed by WESH.
In terms of public transit impact, SunRail experienced some service interruptions. One train cancellation was reported, and another line faced a 45-minute delay. Nonetheless, SunRail services resumed operation shortly after the incident.
