The Metropolitan Police Department has reported the arrest of a suspect in connection with a fatal shooting that shook a Southeast neighborhood earlier this year. In a deadly incident that occurred on the night of May 22, 35-year-old William Spriggs was found with gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene. The location, identified as the 4800 block of Alabama Avenue, Southeast, quickly became the center of a police investigation that continued for months.
Bearing the weight of a D.C. Superior Court arrest warrant, the police have managed to seemingly break in to find the suspect they believe is responsible for the death of Spriggs. On November 5, 42-year-old Darvin Banks, a resident of Southeast DC, was detained and has been charged with First Degree Murder While Armed (Premeditated), as announced by the Metropolitan Police Department. Banks' arrest marks a significant development in a case that lingered unresolved for nearly six months.
Officers had responded to reports of gunfire at approximately 10:45 p.m. on that ill-fated Wednesday night. First responders from DC Fire and EMS found Spriggs. However, their efforts to revive him were unavailing.
