A man identified as Tyrone Armbrister has turned himself into Miami Springs police after surveillance footage revealed his attempt to sexually assault a worker inside a local smoke shop. This incident occurred on November 9 at the Red Eye Smoke Shop, where Armbrister was caught grabbing, and dragging the woman into a storage room and was later seen attacking her, as per the local law enforcement.
The surveillance video captured Armbrister forcibly taking the woman, an employee named Ahiline Campos, 20, into a back room after re-entering the shop shirtless with, what has been described as, sinister intentions. During the assault, Campos was able to fight off Armbrister, at one point using a toilet plunger to defend herself. This courageous act was followed by a lie about pressing an emergency button, which eventually led to Armbrister fleeing the scene, WSVN reported.
Upon turning himself in, Armbrister was reported by Local 10 News as admitting to his wrongdoing and wanting to "make it right." Armbrister stated, “My sincere apology. I hope that she’s OK,” taking responsibility for his actions while implying that his judgment may have been impaired due to his belief that something had been put in his drink.
After the incident, Armbrister changed his appearance by shaving his beard and cutting his hair, actions he admitted were inspired by movies as he considered fleeing. During questioning, it was revealed he was still wearing the same boxer briefs from the day of the attack, NBC Miami conveyed.
In response to the publicity of the surveillance footage and being recognized, Armbrister cited the need to own up to his actions. “Someone contacted me and told me okay you on TV,” he said, acknowledging the power, the video had in illuminating his actions and prompting his surrender. Currently, Armbrister is facing charges of attempted sexual battery, false imprisonment, and burglary and is being held at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center with his bond status pending, as these developments unravel in Miami Springs, as reported by NBC Miami report.
