Four people were hospitalized yesterday evening after a rollover crash in Orangevale that involved suspected impaired driving. According to FOX40, the accident, which occurred around 8:49 p.m. near Chestnut Avenue and Greenback Lane, left one adult in critical condition and three children with minor to moderate injuries.

The community of Orangevale, situated roughly 20 miles east of Sacramento, became the scene of the crash when a vehicle, reportedly being driven under the influence, overturned on the lawn of a residence. The Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District stated that the vehicle—possibly an SUV or van—came to a rest against a tree, severely damaged with its roof sheared off. Detained after the incident, the driver was described with none injuries reported.

Responders from the same district worked to extricate the vehicle’s two adult occupants and three children. KCRA reports that after being freed from the wreckage, the adults and children were quickly transported to a local hospital. The California Highway Patrol has since taken the driver into custody on suspicion of DUI.

Photos from the scene released by Metro Fire illustrated the aftermath of the violent rollover. While emergency teams provided aid, Metro Fire addressed the chaos caused by a split-second poor decision.
